Remains of 286 Vietnamese volunteer soldiers repatriated
The Mekong Delta province of An Giang on July 25 held a solemn memorial service to rebury 286 sets of remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers who laid down their lives in battlefields in Cambodia.
Representatives from Ta Keo, Kompong Speu and Kandal provinces and military officers and combatants of Cambodia were among those at the ceremony held at the Doc Ba Dac Martyrs’ Cemetery in Tinh Bien district.
The remains were searched and repatriated by two working groups coded K90 and K93 from the Military Zone 9 and the Military Command of An Giang province.
Also on July 25, the southwestern province of Tay Ninh received 72 sets of remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers.
The remains were repatriated from Kompong Cham, Siem Reap, Battambang and Meanchay provinces of Cambodia by two searching groups K70 and K71 from the Military Zone 7. They were reburied at Martyrs’ Cemetery Hill 82 in Tan Bien district.
Since 2001, the province has received a total of 2,125 sets of remains of volunteer soldiers from the neighbouring country.-(VNA)
